Lantau Peak Hong Kong

Lantau Peak

Lantau Island to the west of Hong Island offers more opportunities to get away from the concrete jungle and experience some fantastic hiking and sites. The easiest way to get to Lantau Island is to hop on the MTR and navigate to the Tung Chung Station. For those looking for a longer route, there is a ferry from Central Pier to Lantau Island. I never took this option since it was more expensive, but expect it would be fun to check out. From Tung Chung MTR Station, exit the station and walk to the Tung Chung Towne Center Bus Terminal. Here you can take either the 11 or 23 bus to Pak Kung Au stop. * Tell the bus driver you want to stop at Pak Kung Au so he knows to stop. From there, Lantau Peak is about a 1-2 hour hike, with 1800 feet of elevation gain. An absolutely incredible view of the island and surrounding water.

From Lantau Peak, continue along the path west towards Ngong Ping. As you make the 1.5 mile descent, you will see the Tian Tian Buddha (Big Buddha). Walk into the town and up the steps to get a good look at the incredible bronze Buddha statue.
